How to deal with a tenant who is a hoarder

AlfonsoGomezBroker.com - You won't believe how many landlords, especially ones that try to rent their home without the assistance of a management company, truly believe that they lock tenants out whenever they feel like it. The following are some crazy things landlords have illegally done (I am NOT an attorney, I'm just giving you examples of things I've personally seen and heard):
  • tenant didn't pay their rent by the 1st of the month and the landlord changed the locks by the 3rd of the month...
  • tenant didn't pay their rent on time and the landlord cuts off the electricity or water service...
  • the landlord feels that they can enter the rental unit whenever they want, without notices or a simply courtesy call or text...
Many landlords don't see their rental home as a business and this is a problem! Renting a home is a business and in business there are specific rules and LAWS!

Tenants who hoarder is a difficult situation because it could be that maybe the home is just messy, not clean, that's not typically against the law BUT if there are so many things that it becomes a safety and/or security issue, then there's a possible eviction excuse.

I STRONGLY RECOMMENED THAT ALL LANDLORDS CONSULT WITH A LICENSED REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY WHEN EVER DEALING WITH ANY ASPECT OF RENTING A HOME.
